The story - Esri is an ordinary 14 year-old living with her dad and little sister in Toronto, Canada. She begins having vivid dreams about cave people. With the help of Clea, a mysterious old woman, Esri discovers she is a Mender with the power to move through time, mending the past to create a better future. Under Clea's guidance, Esri is living a parallel life 75,000 years ago when cataclysmic events reduced the human race to mere hundreds. The events that unfold within the Flat Rocks clan will set the direction for the social evolution of the human race. Esri bounces back and forth in time trying to accomplish her Mending while keeping her everyday life on track. She finds help from many new and unusual friends - critical allies when she confronts the evil Disruptors, strange beings who can also move through time, bitter enemies of the Menders. |

FROM THE PROLOGUE
The end of the world came in waves . . .
First, a far-off thunderous roar from beyond the horizon. It swept over them - again and again.
Later, a dense cloud, its leading edge blood red, slowly consumed the sky. It blanketed the sun, shrouding everything in deep twilight. It stayed and become the Always Cloud.
And then came the Ash Rain. Birds dropped from the skies. The people looked up and their mouths filled with ashes. Everyone and everything turned into ghosts. As the people fell, the believed it was the end of the world. What had they done to so anger the Ancients?
One of the last to fall thought about the old woman in his bode who knew too much. When the blood red Always Cloud came she told them to go deep into the cave. But few listened. He smiled. Maybe she would survive the end of the world. But would anyone else?
